Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how VineToast, LLC ("VineToast," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the VineToast mobile app and related services (the "Service").

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a securely hashed password, handled by Firebase Authentication. If you sign up through a founding member or invite code, we associate that code with your account.

Photos you scan. When you use the wine label scanner, the photo you capture is sent to our server-side function to identify the wine (vintage, region, producer, etc.). We do not use these photos for any purpose other than returning your scan result, and we do not retain the images longer than needed to process the request.

AI Sommelier questions. Questions you ask our AI Sommelier are sent to our backend, which uses Anthropic's Claude API to generate a response. We do not use your questions to train AI models.

Content you create. Tasting notes, wishlist entries, occasion cards, and similar content you add in the app are stored in our database (Google Firestore) and tied to your account.

Purchase information. If you subscribe to VineToast Reserve, payment is processed by our payment provider. We do not store your full card number; our payment provider handles payment data under its own privacy policy.

Usage and device information. We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used (e.g. screens viewed, features used) and Expo push notification tokens to deliver notifications you've opted into. This may include device type, OS version, and general usage events.

Sharing activity. If you use the app's share features (e.g. to unlock Vault content), we record that a share occurred so we can track progress toward unlocking rewards. We do not access the content of your social media accounts.

2. How We Use Information

• Provide and operate the Service (sign-in, saving your notes/wishlist, processing scans and AI questions)
• Process payments and manage subscriptions
• Send you notifications you've opted into
• Understand usage patterns to improve the app
• Maintain security and prevent abuse

3. How We Share Information

We share information with the following service providers, who process it on our behalf:

• Google Firebase — authentication, database, cloud functions, analytics, and push notification delivery
• Anthropic — processes AI Sommelier questions and wine label scan images to generate responses
• Our payment provider — payment processing for subscriptions

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of VineToast, our users, or others.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account information and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal or accounting purposes.

5. Your Choices

• You can edit or delete tasting notes, wishlist items, and other content directly in the app.
• You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at hello@vinetoast.com.
• You can opt out of push notifications in your device settings.

6. Children's Privacy

VineToast provides information about alcoholic beverages and is not intended for use by anyone under the legal drinking age in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
